Sprint, on the Value of Diversity

By Claudio Hidalgo, Sprint Region President, Florida, Puerto Rico & U.S. Virgin Islands

We live in a globalized, connected world that is changing rapidly in every way. From new technologies to messages and marketing tactics, businesses are becoming more and more astute in how to engage and communicate with people who come from all walks of life. Globalization is opening doors to new markets and expanded services, and businesses must be able to adapt to meet the needs of a changing landscape.
In order to survive, businesses must lead the charge in showcasing the value of diversity. Do not be fooled: diversity is not just a collection of faces that showcase different races, gender and ethnicities. Rather, it is a value and notion that can help propel you and your business forward. Diversity is a concept that can cultivate a strong culture and unify ideas that people want to be a part of.
Diversity is the key to the way Sprint does business. Period. Our commitment starts at the top and works through every department and store across the nation. Here at Sprint, we are striving not to make workplace diversity a box that we can check off our to-do list. We strive to foster a culture and environment in which every person -- employee, customer and supplier -- can help move our ever growing collective work forward together as one.
These are just some of the many examples of how we value diversity in the workplace and how it is helping the Sprint family thrive:
  1. Our customers benefit with new solutions. Today, many of our Sprint Store employees are in bilingual positions. We provide Spanish language services through our customer service portals and in our retail stores helping us reach our customers in a way that works best for them.
  1. We extend to new markets and grow our bottom line. Diversity is not just a nicety but a necessity for businesses to grow their bottom line today. As we research and develop new products and continue to find ways to improve our current offerings, we lead with diverse thinking. For example, as part of Sprint’s Copa America sponsorship earlier this year, we have been able to connect with soccer fans from all backgrounds to bring unique experiences that they all share in the culture.
  1. Our employees get creative. At Sprint, we have seven Employee Resource Groups (ERGs) representing various audiences that reflect the communities we serve. Our workplace culture at Sprint is driven by the unique practices and experiences of our diverse employees, and our ERGs recognize and encourage these differences by celebrating culturally relevant events throughout the year helping inspire and encourage the uniqueness that helps bring us all together.
Across Sprint, we also understand our role as trusted partners in the communities we inhabit. Beyond providing quality customer service and network reliability, we also honor the contributions that diverse communities have made for our business, country and world.
This season, as part of Hispanic Heritage Month, our Florida Sprint stores are participating in various events that celebrate our diverse Latino communities and welcome all to join us: Viva Tampa Bay Hispanic Heritage Festival, honoring generations living in Tampa Bay and around Florida, Sentir Cuba, a three-day expo celebrating the best of Cuban food, dancing and culture, and Viva Jacksonville Festival Cultural Latino, a celebration of the diversity and unique history of Hispanic American culture.

As we continue to evolve as a company and a carrier, diversity allows us to bring better products and services to our customers and communities. Our work is a reflection of the great ideas brought to the table by the best talent in the business committed to #MoveForward together.
