Innovative fleet management tools from Sprint helped an Atlanta towing service win the highest recognition from Georgia’s top promoter of advancing the state’s technology industry.
The Technology Association of Georgia (TAG) named A Tow Inc. of Atlanta its winner in the small company category of its 2014 Excalibur Awards at its annual gala on Oct. 24 at the Georgia Aquarium in Atlanta. The annual awards recognize Georgia companies that best use technology to solve complex issues in business and education.
A Tow Inc., in conjunction with Sprint, implemented a fleet management solution from Actsoft that allows supervisors to see, in real time, where all tow truck drivers are and how they’re driving. The solution, powered by Sprint’s wireless network, makes for a significantly improved dispatch experience and reduces excessive idling while helping keep the drivers on task, on time and safe.
A Tow Inc. was selected from among 90 applications submitted by companies and organizations in Georgia.
“A Tow Inc. embodies the forward-thinking and technology-embracing spirit that companies in our state need to thrive,” said Tino Mantella, president and CEO, TAG. “We had a strong group of entries in all categories in this our eighth year of the awards. Our judges couldn’t deny the success A Tow Inc had with the wireless fleet management solution from Sprint and Actsoft.”
Page Porter, CEO of A Tow, Inc., in addition to recently employing the fleet solution recommended by Sprint and Actsoft, created her own tow truck software called TOWED that integrates wireless credit card processing. TOWED software tells car owners where their towed vehicle was placed, saving the owner from phones calls and trips to various tow lots to find it.
Porter leads nearly 50 tow truck drivers and 100 employees that service the Atlanta metro area. The family owned business started 50 years ago by Porter’s father, Val J. Porter, with one truck to handle the towing needs of his service station.
“My family and I are humbled by this Excalibur Award honor from TAG,” Porter said. “The competition was fierce with lots of wonderful companies that could have won. This award should also be given to my Sprint Business partners Charles Davidson and Darlene Combs. They introduced the efficiency improvements to my business with the Actsoft solution.”
