Sprint and Rave Wireless Once Again Partner to Make Campuses More

ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 7, 2007--Sprint (NYSE:S) and Rave Wireless ( have partnered to offer a comprehensive suite of mobile solutions that deliver communications, enhance student safety and generate a greater sense of community at Mercer University in Atlanta and Macon. Beginning in the Fall semester of 2007, all students at Mercer University will have greater access to features such as timely news alerts, group text messaging and polling, campus directories, university events calendar, shuttle bus locations, class schedules and reminders, thanks to customized mobile applications created by Rave Wireless. Sprint’s state-of-the-art network and unique location-based services, combined with Rave Wireless’ mobile applications create a complete solution for higher education institutions.

"We are pleased to be working with Mercer University and integrating wireless technology on both campuses that will enhance the classroom experience from both a learning and a teaching perspective," said Joel Garner, regional vice president for Sprint. "In addition, Sprint’s continued partnership with Rave Wireless strengthens our commitment to enhance the learning environment for higher education institutions not only at Mercer, but across the country."

Rave Wireless’ applications, available on both the Sprint National Network and the Nextel National Network, provide students with the flexibility to access campus-specific content and services through mobile phones from anywhere and at any time through a combination of text messaging and the mobile Internet. Students opt in to the groups and content they want and choose their alerting preference for all but emergency broadcast alerts, which are automatically delivered to every student in the program. The solution deployed at Mercer, also includes Rave Guardian, which provides students with a greater level of security and added peace-of-mind.

Rave Guardian is a revolutionary service that leverages GPS technologies, allowing students to transform their mobile phones into personal alarm devices on an as-needed basis. Rave Guardian is fully integrated into the campus police department, improving a student’s safety by enabling them to make their GPS location known when they feel unsafe. In addition, the mobile phones, referred to as an ’e-learning tool’, by the school administration, will foster strong student-faculty relationships by facilitating real-time communication, course information, and in-class assessments.

Now students will have access to timely, actionable information throughout their busy day. For example, if a soccer team practice is cancelled and a professor changes a course assignment, a student can adjust their behavior in real time to stay at the library and study the new assignment rather than making a wasted trip to the soccer fields.

"Rave Wireless is all about helping higher education institutions build stronger and safer communities where students can get the most out of their college experience," said Rodger Desai, CEO of Rave Wireless. "Rave provides a whole spectrum of options for universities that range from basic emergency text alerting to turnkey mobile phone programs such as the new program at Mercer University. The leadership at Mercer is truly visionary in their adoption of technology for the improvement of campus life."

Starting this fall, Mercer will offer the Sprint solution with Rave applications to all students. Through a state-of-the-art dual-network Custom Network Solution (CNS) designed for both campuses, Sprint has created a unified messaging platform for students and faculty to communicate, especially helpful during an emergency or national catastrophe.

"The partnership between Mercer University, Sprint and Rave Wireless provides a state of the art Campus Communication Program that assures students have instant access to a broad spectrum of information tools," said Major General Richard N. Goddard (retired), vice president and chief technology officer for Mercer University. "This program improves safety and security, enhances access to educational applications, broadens communication options between students and faculty and assures signal reception in every University facility."
