Independent Research Study Shows Sprint as a Leader in the Delivery of Domestic Managed MPLS Services to Businesses

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- Today, Sprint (NYSE:S) announced that the Forrester Wave(TM): Domestic North American Managed MPLS Services, Q4 2008 (October 2008) named Sprint a leader, giving the company the highest score for market strategy.

Businesses are turning to flexible IP-based network solutions for efficiencies and to enable convergence. For years, Sprint has demonstrated its long-standing commitment to provide wide area networking (WAN) services that meet the needs of customers, making the transition from legacy data solutions to IP and MPLS-based solutions.

The report evaluated three Canadian and seven U.S. service providers using approximately 48 criteria grouped into three high-level categories: current offering, strategy and market presence. The evaluations were conducted after examining past research, assessing user needs, and interviewing service providers and customers.

The report states that Sprint "... has a strong customer care/portal capability for monitoring service performance and order administration. Overall, it also has strong offerings in both service breadth and network performance. It leads all others in the percentage of customers that use real-time CoS, and has strong sales capabilities." In this study, Sprint received the highest marks for 2008/2009 managed MPLS strategic plans.

Sprint recently formed a Wireline business unit, led by Dan Dooley, to bring together a dedicated team to help businesses take full advantage of the benefits of IP-based and converged services. The business unit formalizes processes across Sprint and demonstrates the company's commitment to helping businesses make the transition from legacy services. The result is a seamless integration of access services with managed services as needed to provide a premium WAN experience, as well as a holistic solution that delivers businesses the benefits of IP and anytime connectivity, virtually anywhere.

"Sprint is helping businesses leverage a common IP core to enable voice, video and data via a single IP connection as an opportunity to simplify their network infrastructure and management," said Dan Dooley, president of Wireline, Sprint. "Especially during tough economic times, companies benefit from the flexibility and capacity of Sprint's IP network to reduce costs and leverage a flexible foundation that scales for growth and allows for easier migration/adoption of next-generation technologies and applications."

Sprint offers both public and private MPLS solutions and is the first global service provider to receive Cisco's IP-VPN Multiservice QoS certification. To assist business customers in monitoring and managing the performance of their IP and MPLS networks, Sprint launched Compass online self-service in September. Provided at no extra charge, Compass displays IP and MPLS key performance indicators, customer port inventory and configuration that goes beyond the customer premises. Enterprise customer feedback to date has been positive.

Sprint second quarter earnings showed the company outpaced the market with a 42 percent year-over-year growth in IP services, or three to four times the U.S. market rate growth in IP services.
