Smile and Say "Boo!" Wireless Photos Are the Real Halloween Treat This Year

New Research from Sprint Shows More Than Half of Respondents Ages 18-54 Want to Receive Halloween Photos on Their Mobile Phones

OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Whether you're dressed as a ghoul or taking your little goblin trick or treating, your friends and family want to see it - and fast. According to new research from Sprint (NYSE: S), more than half of respondents ages 18-54 want to receive a Halloween photo of a family member on their wireless handset on Halloween night.

Sharing photos through your wireless phone is an easy way to stay in touch with loved ones. The Sprint survey, conducted by Opinion Research Corporation (ORC), shows that more than half of respondents between the ages of 18-44 use their wireless phones to take pictures. In addition, more than 50 percent of respondents ages 18-54 have used their phones to send the pictures they take to another person's mobile phone.

"The number of people taking, storing and sharing photos on their phones is increasing," said Kim Dixon, senior vice president of retail for Sprint. "In 2006, 55 percent of people ages 18-29 were taking pictures with their phones* - a number that has jumped to 63 percent now. Our study also shows that the size of your household impacts your photo-taking and -sharing habits. In households of three or more, people are twice as likely to send a photo as those in a single household. People in households of three or more are also storing more photos - 40 percent of households of three or more have at least 25 photos stored on their wireless device, compared to 25 percent of single households."

Despite the popularity of photo taking and sharing, 14 percent of mobile phone users age 30 and older, and nearly one in four people ages 55-64, have never tried to send a photo, or don't know how to use the function.

"Once you know how to do it, taking and sharing a photo on your mobile phone is easy," said Dixon. "If you don't know how, stop by a Sprint store or go online to make an appointment with a Sprint retail associate to experience Ready Now. They'll sit down with you and teach you how to send photos, text or use any of the other features on your wireless handset or smartphone."

Through Sprint's Ready Now program, Sprint customers can choose how much or how little they want to learn about any of the features and applications on their phones. Customers also have a choice of sitting down with a Sprint retail associate while in the store, or they can make an appointment for a later time. SURVEY METHODOLOGY

This data is the result of a telephone survey conducted among a national probability sample of 2,010 adults, comprised of 1,003 men and 1,007 women, 18 years of age and older, living in private households in the continental United States. Also included was an oversample of 150 18- to 29-year-olds. Interviewing for this CARAVAN(R) Survey was completed during the periods of Oct. 2-6 and Oct. 9-13.
