Sprint Expansion of Ethernet Access Simplifies IP Service Implementations

Carrier Also Expands Key Convergence, Access Capabilities in 2010

OVERLAND PARK, Kan., May 25, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --While high costs for traditional access to IP services strain business resources, Sprint offers businesses and wholesale partners Ethernet access as a simple, cost-effective solution for implementing Sprint Global MPLS and Sprint Dedicated Internet Access (DIA). Sprint (NYSE:S) today announced the expansion of its U.S. Ethernet footprint to Central and Northern New Jersey, Stockton, Calif., and Baltimore, Md., and has deepened its coverage in 10 U.S. markets.

Sprint now offers comprehensive Ethernet access in 28 markets nationwide and 35 countries globally. Sprint expects to further enhance and expand coverage in an additional 16 U.S. markets later this year.

Enhanced Ethernet access coverage for Sprint Global MPLS and DIA provides businesses and wholesale partners more opportunities that can reduce network costs for high-bandwidth locations and to simplify the complexity of maintaining multiple types of technologies.

Sprint's Ethernet access solution connects from the customer's premises to the Sprint Global MPLS or DIA networks using an Ethernet local loop. This allows customers to enjoy the flexibility and simplicity of Ethernet, with Sprint serving as the single point of contact to provide businesses and wholesale partners an end-to-end solution. Other benefits include:

  • Flexible speeds ranging from 2 Mbps to 1 Gbps, subject to market availability, which easily scales to fit customer's needs.
  • Opportunity to lower costs for both equipment and IP services when compared to traditional access.
  • Network and customer-specific performance SLAs.

"Businesses experience tremendous value in our convergence and workplace connectivity solutions, particularly in boosting speed, flexibility and redundancy," said Tom Roberts, vice president of business marketing, Sprint. "Our convergence expertise helps customers streamline network infrastructure and deploy solutions that operate similarly in mobile and fixed environments to ensure the end-user experience is seamless."

With a strong commitment to delivering robust IP networking capabilities to businesses and wholesale partners, Sprint continues to expand coverage of its award-winning networks and key capabilities in 2010. This year, Sprint received the Frost & Sullivan 2010 North American Product Leadership Award in MPLS Service Level Agreements for Business Customers. Sprint also received the Nemertes 2009 Pilothouse award for MPLS Services, ranking highest overall in each evaluation category - value, customer service, technology and IP network reliability.

Building on its reach to 165 countries around the world, Sprint expanded MPLS access within Brazil and Canada earlier this year through its own facilities and NNI partners. By the end of 2010 Sprint plans to deploy new facilities in the Philippines and Thailand to augment current coverage and capacity in Asia-Pacific. Sprint will continue to look for opportunities for additional expansion in 2010 and beyond.
