Sprint Honored as One of Nation's Top Military-Friendly Employers by G.I. Jobs Magazine for Sixth Consecutive Year
Sprint is One of Only Seven Firms to Be Recognized Every Year; Only 2 Percent of 2,500 Eligible Companies Are Selected
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Nov. 12, 2008--For the sixth year in a row, Sprint (NYSE:S) was named one of the country's Top 50 Military-Friendly Companies by G.I. Jobs magazine. Selected from a pool 2,500 eligible companies (minimum of $1 billion annual in revenues), Sprint is one of only 2 percent that made the list. In addition, Sprint is one of only seven firms that have earned a spot on the list in all six years of its existence. Sprint ranks twenty-eighth on this year's list.
Criteria for the rankings included assets dedicated to military hiring, Reserve/Guard policies, percentage of new hires that are veterans, veteran training programs, and rankings in G.I. Jobs for the previous three years.
"Receiving this recognition is a great honor," said Efren Mojica, president of V.E.T.S. (Veterans and Employees helping others Through Sprint), a Sprint employee resource group with 1,000-plus members. "The fact that Sprint has ranked among the nation's top-50 military-friendly employers for six years in a row is testimony to the company's support of the military and their families." V.E.T.S., which provides members with a variety of professional-development and mentoring opportunities, also sponsors events to recognize the importance of veterans, including Veterans Day celebrations at major Sprint locations across the country.
Sprint offers outstanding benefits for military employees and their families, as well as a strong military recruitment program, and has been widely recognized for this support. Sprint's benefits for military personnel include an extended salary differential, extended benefits and family support during involuntary call to active duty. Recruitment efforts focus on hiring veterans, members of the Reserve and National Guard, as well as transitioning active military and their spouses or other family members.
In addition to being part of G.I. Jobs' Top 50 Military-Friendly Employers for the past six years, Vetrepreneur has listed Sprint on its Top 10 Most Veteran Friendly Corporate Supplier diversity programs list, and the National Committee of Employer Support of the Guard and Reserve has recognized Sprint for going above and beyond the legal requirements for granting leave for military duty.
