Sprint to Launch ''Power to Play'' Essay Contest for Pittsburgh Youth to Meet Ben Roethlisberger

Area Youth to Compete for 28 Invitations to Football Mini-Camp Attended by Roethlisberger
PITTSBURGH, Jan 16, 2007 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Sprint (NYSE:S) today announced that it will conduct the "Power to Play" essay contest for Pittsburgh area youth ages 8-13, for the chance to meet NFL quarterback and Super Bowl champion Ben Roethlisberger.

"I believe in encouraging children to work hard in pursuit of their dreams. I would not be in the NFL without hard work, determination and strong role models. I am honored to participate in this event and meet the distinguished winners of Sprint's essay contest. We will have fun together," stated Roethlisberger.

Entrants will write the essay based on the following theme: "Hard work has given me the power to........." Twenty eight winners will be given the opportunity to spend a day learning to play football at a mini training camp attended by Roethlisberger in March. Eight winners will be chosen from each of the following age groups: 8-9, 10-11 and 12-13. Contest essay entries should be 200 words or less and will be accepted from Jan. 14 through Feb. 4.

"Through the "Power to Play" program we hope to demonstrate to the youth of Pittsburgh the rewards that can come from hard work and dedication. Sprint's goal is to provide customers with a quality communications device and a reliable network while improving the quality of life in the markets where they work and live," said Karen Paletta, area vice president for Sprint.

Four additional winners will also be chosen from entries received from members of the Girls Scouts Trillium Council.

"The Girl Scouting organization will celebrate its 95th anniversary this year. Our council's involvement in the "Power to Play" essay contest is a wonderful example of how Girl Scouting has evolved over the years and is not just about cookies, camping and crafts," said Marcia Barber, Girl Scouts - Trillium Council CEO.
