Sprint Waives Fees to Japan Following Earthquake and Tsunami
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. – November 21, 2016 – Effective today through November 24, 2016, Sprint (NYSE:S) is waiving all international call and SMS charges for Sprint, Boost and Virgin Mobile customers in the U.S. reaching those in Japan, and for roaming voice and SMS for Sprint customers in Japan following today’s massive earthquake and tsunami warnings. Charges will be automatically credited during the time specified.
Customers are encouraged to use text messaging when possible due to high call volumes and possible network congestion in the local area.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the people of Japan,” said Marcelo Claure, Sprint president and CEO. “We want to do what we can to support our customers in the U.S. stay connected with loved ones who might be impacted, as well as our customers abroad in Japan.”
Customers can sign in to their My Sprint account to enable international calling before attempting to make a call. They can also chat with a Sprint International Representative. Customers may cancel international calling at any time following the effective period.
