More than 1,400 Field Service Technicians Speed Up Productivity with New Technology
OVERLAND PARK, Kan.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--June 12, 2007--With the deployment of a best-in-class, advanced wireless solution from Sprint (NYSE:S), Service Experts, a business segment of Lennox International Inc. (NYSE:LII) will forever change the way they do business. The field service solution, designed for HVAC (Heating Ventilation Air Conditioning) service and installation technicians, automates a completely paper-based system and enhances mobile capabilities of service technicians, resulting in better customer service, increased efficiency and revenue potential for Service Experts (SEI). SEI is one of the largest HVAC service companies in North America with 1,400 field technicians in the United States and Canada. Today, SEI took a significant step forward in the use of wireless technology with Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions, implementing Project FAST (Field Automation for Service Technicians), which allows technicians to:
-- Get to projects faster
-- Have more project information at the job site
-- Focus on the job and not paperwork
-- Provide better customer service
"We are pleased to be launching FAST and to be able to integrate wireless technology into our daily operations on such a scale, especially given the advantages it offers to both our customers and business," said Scott J. Boxer, president and COO for SEI. "Implementation of FAST is expected to increase our average service technicians’ productivity as much as a half hour a day, allowing them to make more effective service calls in less time and provide better service to our customers as a result. We recognized Sprint’s wireless technology could help to enhance our customer efficiency which means repeat business, referrals and overall customer satisfaction."
Sprint will eliminate the need for service technicians to manually complete their service work orders. SEI technicians will move to an electronic service work order (ESWO) with a customer signature capture, GPS driving directions and processing of credit card transactions in the field. The FAST solution puts a field service application from Mobile Computing Corporation (MCC) on a rugged Motorola MC9097 mobile computer in the hands of each technician. The Motorola MC9097 is the first rugged mobile computer to operate on the Nextel National Network, offering integrated wireless WAN/LAN/PAN as well as Nationwide Walkie-Talkie capability. The device integrates voice and data communications as well as GPS functionality over the Nextel National Network with dispatch and with SEI’s back-office operating system in real time.
The ESWO is expected to drop the average time to fill out a work order from 20 minutes to 5 minutes per work order. The ESWO also will automate time stamping, reduce the cost of paper, minimize errors due to manual processing and allow simplified reporting.
SEI also will use GPS driving directions to enhance technician productivity. The GPS solution will mitigate time lost while waiting for directions from the dispatcher as well as reduce the time technicians currently spend reviewing maps, lower driving time with direct routes/alternate routes and increase response time to the customer. The back-office savings for SEI will be reduced workload on dispatchers, reduced fuel and reduced maintenance costs.
Finally, the Motorola MC9097 mobile computer and MCC’s field service application will allow technicians to handle on-site payments through mobile credit card processing. This will increase cash flow for SEI by reducing workload on dispatch/radio traffic, minimizing opportunity for errors and lost bills and improving accountability to credit card processing/transactions.
The Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions - FAST - will increase productivity time for the average technician allowing more time for service calls. SEI is anticipating that the efficiency gains by the ESWO will allow each technician to make one additional service call per day, positively impacting thousands of customers and increasing the revenue for SEI.
SEI, located in Richardson, Texas, operates company-owned heating and cooling service centers providing sales, installation, maintenance and repair service functions to the residential and light commercial markets. SEI is a business segment of Lennox International. Operating in over 100 countries, Lennox International Inc. is a global leader in the heating, air conditioning and refrigeration markets.
Introduced in August 2006, Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions program provides a one-stop shop, single contract and centralized bill for business customers that takes advantage of Sprint’s extensive technology backbone and partner relationships to address specific customer needs whether mobile asset management, field service automation, route accounting, fleet dispatch or more. The program offers a combination of hardware, application software, mobile voice and data usage, professional services and Sprint-centralized customer care - packaged together for easy deployment and maintenance.
"We are meeting the needs of our customers with a semi-custom approach that is unique to their pain points," said Paul Deering, vice president of Sprint Advanced Wireless Solutions. "With SEI, they asked and we delivered with the coverage, mobility, reliability and performance capabilities available only with our team of solution partners to help drive measurable results."
