Sprint continues focus on environment and corporate responsibility efforts
OVERLAND PARK, Kan. (BUSINESS WIRE), September 09, 2011 - Sprint (NYSE: S) has been named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index (DJSI) North America. Sprint was recognized as a sustainability leader by Dow Jones and the Zurich-based Sustainable Asset Management Group. The index is based on a rigorous analysis of corporate, economic, environmental and social performance in areas such as corporate governance, customer relationship management, privacy, climate change mitigation, and labor practices. DJSI North America tracks the top 20 percent of the 600 biggest North American companies in the Dow Jones Global Total Stock Market Index that lead the field in terms of sustainability.
In Rate the Raters, published in October 2010, the Dow Jones Sustainability Indexes were identified as the most credible sustainable rating approach among more than 100 rating organizations surveyed by SustainAbility. Rate the Raters also noted that corporate sustainability rankings are increasingly influential among non-governmental organizations (NGOs), company employees, journalists and other stakeholders.
“The DJSI has become the gold standard in recognizing the world’s corporate sustainability leaders,” said Michael A. Petronella, president of Dow Jones Sustainability Index. “These indexes have become an invaluable market tool for those seeking to support companies that are committed to creating and adopting sustainable business practices.”
Sprint recently published its 2010 Sustainability Report, highlighting progress on its corporate responsibility priorities for its operations, products and services, customers, employees and communities. Sprint’s focus on customer management, environmental product design and e-waste has been widely recognized as Sprint continues to focus on corporate responsibility as a way to enhance the company’s reputation, trust and brand.
"Being named to the Dow Jones Sustainability Index North America acknowledges the hard work of our employees to continuously improve the sustainability of our corporation,” said Ralph Reid, vice president of corporate responsibility at Sprint.
