Do-Gooders Whisked From Chicago, New York and Boston to “Free’d” Out Virgin Mobile FreeFest Presented by Kyocera
WARREN, N.J. (BUSINESS WIRE), August 16, 2010 - Tickets to the 2010 Virgin Mobile FreeFest presented by Kyocera may have “Free’d Out” in a flash, but people who donate their time to youth homeless agencies – especially those living in Chicago, New York and Boston – can now partake in the fun and earn free tickets. Through its partnership with Megabus, Virgin Mobile will be offering volunteers free tickets and transportation to the show along with free hotel accommodations through its “FreeFest Express.”
Volunteers from New York, Boston and Chicago who sign up on www.virginmobilefreefest.com/freeip and contribute eight hours of time will receive two tickets to FreeFest, plus hotel accommodations and transportation.
Virgin Mobile FreeFest will feature M.I.A., LCD Soundsystem, Ludacris, Pavement, T.I. and a dozen more acts on Saturday, Sept. 25, at Merriweather Post Pavilion in Columbia, Md. The full lineup can be found on www.virginmobilefreefest.com. The company is also making free tickets available to volunteers who give their time in the Washington/Baltimore area.
"FreeFest Express is sure to be the road trip of the summer," said Ron Faris, director of brand experiences, Virgin Mobile USA. "Last year 30,000 hours of volunteerism were generated through FreeFest. This year, we hope to beat that number, and we’re really grateful that megabus.com is once again joining us for the ride.”
"The help we received at Green Chimneys from last year’s volunteers was priceless," said Theresa Nolan, Green Chimneys New York division director. “These opportunities make all the difference in the world for homeless youth programs. In addition to feeling that they helped make a difference, the volunteers get something fun in return.”
This year Virgin Mobile USA will partner with Afro Punk, an organization established in 2002 with the mission of giving a voice to thousands of multicultural kids through self-expression, alternative sports, and inspired indie music. Afro Punk will be hosting a number of underground parties in the New York and Chicago areas designed to recruit diehard music fans to volunteer their time in exchange for a memorable road trip to Virgin Mobile FreeFest.
